Review: Yellowbelly Track – Lee and Kerry

In April 2025, Lee and Kerry rode an epic 2 week tour around the region including both the GVRT and Yellowbelly Track. This is their report.

Our time on the Yellowbelly Track was part of a two week cycling holiday in the region.  We are from Adelaide.

Great Victorian Rail Trail to Nagambie

The first week was devoted to the GVRT.  We had left one car in Seymour and drove to Mansfield.  We cycled back to Seymour over four days. So our first encounter with the Yellowbelly Track was the 14km southern section Tallarook to Seymour.  This was a quiet tree lined country road going through farmland.

The second part of the holiday was a seven day circuit out of Nagambie.  We slowly drove the 30km from Seymour to Nagambie on the Yellowbelly Track.  Again a very quiet tree lined country road through farmland, vineyards and horse studs.  We were driving slowly and only one car passed us in the 30 minutes it took to get there.

Nagambie to Echuca via Heathcote and Bendigo

We then cycled Nagambie-Heathcote-Bendigo-Elmore-Echuca following the routes on the GABCY Network map.  These were about 50km per day sections.

Yellowbelly Track – Echuca to Nagambie

Our trip was hotel based so it was always our intention to start the Yellowbelly Track by doing the 28km from Echuca to Wakiti Resort as a half day to allow us to do laundry etc.  We quickly left Echuca behind and the bitumen became gravel.  We deviated a little to see more of the Goulburn River and forest tracks.

Our last day was 70km to our motel in Nagambie.

There is a paved cycle path out of Shepparton through the forest to Mooroopna.

Then on the forest tracks to Toolamba, lovely riding.

The Toolamba shop on google maps doesn’t seem to be open.  From there it is quiet gravel and bitumen country roads for the most part into Nagambie.  We lunched at the Murchison Bakery.

Overall this is a lovely ride along the Goulburn River with plenty of accommodation and resupply options.
