These reports are first-person accounts from different riders about their experiences riding in the GABCY Network. Different riders have different perspectives and their suggestions might assist prospective riders in their plans.
I want to include more Ride Reports from different types of riders, and for various GABCY route options. So if you’ve written something, somewhere about your ride, or would like to, please get in touch.
GABCY Network – South East
Golden Black Track
November 2021 – Harry rode the Golden Black Track in her first expedition as a solo woman rider camping out.
Route Combinations
December 2022 – Wayne and Matt rode a 190km, 2-day / overnight loop starting and finishing at Heathcote. Their loop used sections from Reap the Red Ridge, Camel Cornella, Kirwans Rushy Whroote, Nagambie Meander and Ghostown Gambol.
May 2022 – Victoria and Luke rode 2 loops starting from Murchison. Total distance about 15o km over 2 days. The routes were Waranga Whirl and Kirwans Rushy Whroote.
March 2022 – Victoria and Luke rode 135 km from Bendigo to Nagambie. Their route followed the O’Keefe Rail Trail and then went through Rushworth-Heathcote-Graytown forest areas, including segments from Reap the Red Ridge, Golden Black Track, Ghostown Gambol and Nagambie Meander.
January 2022 – Alister and Duncan rode 198 km around the South East corner of GABCY Network staying in commercial accommodation. Their route included legs from Golden Black Track, Reap the Red Ridge, Camel Cornella and Kirwans Rushy Whroote.
GABCY – South West
Red Ridge Ride – Heathcote Wineries Tour
February 2023 – Darryl, Marion and a friend rode 80 km in a version of the Red Ridge Ride – Heathcote Wineries Tour.
Yellowbelly Track
April 2022 – John and Greg rode all the Yellowbelly Track in 3 days, camping for two nights.
July 2021 – Norm and Jess rode part of the Yellowbelly Track and camped on the Goulburn River in Lower Goulburn National Park.
May 2021 – Mags and Lisa rode the Yellowbelly Track-Roads option, staying in commercial accommodation and eating epic meals at wineries.
April 2021 – Kia and Heath rode part of the Yellowbelly Track between McCoys Bridge and Shepparton, as part of a longer 4-day, 300 km, dirt and gravel, bikepacking loop.
GABCY Grand Tours
January 2023 – Phil – rode 240km over 2 days in a U-shaped tour of the GABCY Network linking up many small towns, with a particular focus on their bakeries.
March 2022 – Dan and crew – rode about 330km over 3 days in a large horseshoe-shaped tour along the outer edge of the GABCY Network. They started at Bendigo and finished at Tallarook, with a train connection at each end.
